Tom Gray has signed an artist endorsement deal with Moog Music. A few months ago Tom drove up to the Asheville factory and took a Moog lap steel for a ride. Now they are building him his own custom guitar.
Tom already had a couple ties to the instrument. For one thing, he once spent a day with Bob Moog at his octagonal house in the mountains near Asheville and wrote a story about him for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. More recently, Cyril Lance, who designed the Moog lap steel, told Tom he decided on the Weissenborn-style body shape after seeing a Delta Moon show in which Tom played his David Dart guitars.
